Dear Sir/Mam

Magic Bus steers children towards a better life with better awareness, better life skills and better opportunities in the journey from childhood to livelihood.

One out of three poor people in the world is from India. The number is a staggering 269.3 million!

Over the coming decades, without support, this generation will not only miss out on opportunities for meaningful employment; but much more - they will miss their chance to fulfill their own ambitions and dreams.

At Magic Bus, we equip some of India's poorest children and young people with the skills and knowledge to grow up and be successful, to move out of poverty, and to take control of their future. We have touched lives of 300,000 children and hope to reach out to many more.

    How We work?

We first identify an area in need of intervention. Typically, this is a poor neighborhood - a slum in urban areas, or a marginalized village in a rural area.

§  We recruit mentors based on recommendations from local people, who we then train in the Magic Bus sport for development curriculum, in how to sustain a mentor-child relationship and in a variety of life skills to make them good role models.

§  Mentors and Magic Bus staff then start running sessions with groups of up to 50 children. Typically, 40 sessions are planned over the course of one year.

§  Simultaneously, our mentors and on-ground staff work to build an enabling environment by engaging parents and the larger community. They leverage existing institutional structures such as schools and Panchayats. Over time, they build the community's focus on how to make the progress sustainable.

§  Our work empowers children to access higher education, better health and hygiene, personal and social skills. We also connect youth to vocational  training and employment opportunities.

What these funds will be used for?

This campaign will transform the lives of several children who are growing up without their basic needs in the slums of India. What they will receive:

1.        40 lessons on health, education, gender equality and livelihood

2.        A trained mentor to deliver the programme

3.        Equipment required for their 40 sessions

4.        A trained Magic Bus employee to monitor the child's progress over the course of the year

Amongst the recognition received for our work over the years, I would like to highlight that we recently got felicitated with the 'Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award' by the President of India and were also featured in the first episode of Satyamev Jayate (Hosted by Aamir Khan http://www.satyamevjayate.in/a-ball-can-change-the-world/episode-1watchvideo.aspx?uid=s3e1-ev-v9&lang=english )
