Has MI got it wrong with the basics for Redmi Note 4? I do not disagree with the bigger battery, better looks. But has they given less focus to the two most important functions anyone would look for from a phone these days: Calls and Camera. Even charging mobile takes a lot of time; will add exact details in the end. Of these basic functions, call is the most basic requirement for any phone and my focus in this post is just that.

I had bought Xiomi Redmi to gift to my wife on Valentine’s day. I had tried flash sale on Flipkart, but when I reached the checkout page it said out of stock. Next day (on a non-sale day) I found the product still on cart, tried to checkout and it worked. I got the product too delivered.

Looks are good and my wife was happy. However, things were not good after we started using it. Her voice is not coming out clear to me when she is talking. Her Samsung Galaxy J5 was much better. I tried searching online and some people suggested to disable Volte setting. I did that and got some improvement, but still the sound quality is very bad.

Later while going through the Flipkart reviews for the product, I could see that I am not the only one who is not happy with MI Xiomi Redmi Note 4’s microphone sound quality. I have attached some of the screen shots below. I can confirm that I a facing all of these issues. 

Summary

I wonder if this is a problem with few phones or whole phones. I have applied a screen guard also from outside, so even if they replace the phone, I will be still at a loss. I think I should have gone for Honor 6X, which is in this range and has dual camera, or better with a non-Chinese brand which may have lesser features, but will definitely have better call quality. With quarter charge as per indicator, it was showing close to 7 hours charging time in the battery settings  page. I need to test the exact charging time from zero charge.

Final Update

Irrespective of initial hickups, phone seems to be working descent. But flipkart service has to be improved. Anyway moving the status to RESOLVED.
