Samsung Galaxy S7 Hotspot Issue and Troubleshooting


Samsung Galaxy S7 smart phonr is a Samsung falgship product. However, I have started experiencing issues related to wifi hotspot in just around 6 months time. When I make my S7 as a hotspot many a times other mobile devices won't be able to connect. At times the signal strength is also shown as very low for other mobiles kept just next to this mobile. I had not expected this from a flagship product from Samsung and decided to wait a bit before getting Samsung Galaxy S8. One look at the reviews for the service centre my place over the internet (Samsung Service Centre Marathahalli) has also made me to think twice before buying next samsung flagship product. Moreover the value of the phone has almost reduced to half in 6 months (based on exchange value offered for S7 for buying S8).

I finally decided to send a mail to Samsung customer care and they provided few troubleshooting steps to start with. The Reference number of email is 8463208415 (In case some Samsung people read this). Will provide all the details here.


Step 1

Go to setting>General>Application Manager>All>Tap on option key and do ‘Reset app preference’. 

After doing the above procedure, kindly restart your device and check the performance. 


Issue was still present.


Step 2

If still issue persists, we request you to operate the device in ‘Safe mode’ as steps are mentioned below: 

  1. You need to restart your handset by pressing power key. 
  2. Then, when Samsung logo appears on the screen long press volume down key and keeps pressing it. 
  3. You will see a safe mode label at bottom left side, when your handset will be entered into safe mode. 
  4. To exist safe mode kindly restarts your device. 

Note: In safe mode, 3rd party application will be bypassed and handset will work with default applications only. By that mean, it becomes clear whether it is an issue of the handset or problem because of any 3rd party application on the handset. 


Issue was still present. I took a video and sent it to them. It does not occur always and hence it is better to have some proof.


Step 3

Further, you may also check your mobile performance without memory card and also insert a new memory card. If facing the same problem then we request you kindly take backup of whole important data which is save in your phone internal memory then perform “Reset”. 

We recommend you to take back up in your pc, kindly install Smart Switch software in your pc from the below link: 

Open soft ware >back up>back up all> select data according to you, 

Note: Don’t disconnect your mobile phone with pc at the time of software installation. 

Reset setting: - Settings> back up and reset >Factory Data Reset. 

Install the updated version of Samsung Smart Switch in your PC/Laptop. The same can be downloaded from the link given below- 


Again did not work. Interestingly even Samsung App was crashing continuously when I was trying to login with mobile number and password.

As before, devices are trying to connect, but connections are immediately disconnected in a second. Laptop was trying to reconnect faster, still it was not stable. I have recorded screens with both mobile and laptop trying to connect.



After updating the customer care, they said an engineer will come and pick up the mobile. I was happy for that. But to my surprise, I got below mail asking to go to customer care after some time.

After giving a confirmation about engineer pickup, it was really disappointing to see this mail asking to go to the service centre. 


Final Update

Moving the status to resolved for now, as I am facing this issue only within my office and don't have time now to wait in queue at the Samsung customer service centre.
